Holiday Hangover - The Sugar Kind

Wow, it is already 2012!  Who knew that 2011 would come and go so quickly?  The older we get, the faster time really does seem to move.  The end of the year is always filled with fun holidays that allow you to spend time with family and friends, enjoy life, slow down and really be thankful for the blessings that you have.  They also give you this idea that it is "okay" to indulge in the tastiest feasts!

Starting with Thanksgiving, I have been enjoying delicious food with no regard for the calories, fat or sodium that I am ingesting.  With the Christmas season, I ate plenty of cookies and candies and treats galore!  Never once stopping to think about the impact on my body.  Oh, and there has been an impact!  A full blown holiday hangover have ensued!

It is true that I am getting older, but lately I have been feeling sluggish, stiff and noticing aches and pains here and there.  I can guarantee it has more to do with the fact that I have not been eating healthy nor have I been staying active like I have wanted to.  It is easy to use the holidays as an excuse, but the truth is that there is no excuse.  I make my own decisions on everything that I do in my life.  That includes what I do or do not eat and whether I workout or not.  I make these decisions about my life just as I make any other decision about how I choose to live.  And frankly, I chose to be a lazy holiday bum stuffing my face with sugar coated cookies and honey glazed ham!

You would think with the new year, I would be more motivated than ever to get back on track and really stay on track.  I am definitely motivated, but I have this problem.  I have a lack of time.  I have been struggling to find a nice schedule that works for me when it comes to meal preparation, working out and still having a life outside of all of that on top of work!  I am slowly working on it, but know there is still a lot to accomplish so it is more about tackling one thing at a time.  Happy to share that I have quit smoking!  Not an easy thing to do, but a smart health decision I should have made a long time ago!  Now, I am focusing on my eating habits.  I will add the workouts within the next two weeks, but I want to get my eating in check!  Sounds fair!

So as I close another entry in this blog, I may be losing my mind a little more right now than weight!  That will be flipping around very soon.  Until next time, stay happy and healthy!

  1. when life gets in the way...sometimes I find it easier to cook extra on the weekends and then eat left overs during the week. Make 2 or 3 dishes for yourself on Saturday or Sunday, freeze them if necessary and then you can eat them or their leftovers during the week. That takes out some dinner/lunch prep time when the monday-friday schedule is crazy. :-) hope that helps!
